🤖 Weekly AI Agent Insights

👀 WhatsApp announced voice calling via the API. That means that… yes you can soon start adding your VAPI, ElevenLabs, or Retell Voice AI Agents to WhatsApp calling!

This will allow businesses in WhatsApp heave areas (like Europe, South-America, Middle-East and Asia) to meet customers where they are, while leveraging the capacity of AI voice agents at the same time.

🧠 Let your AI agent repeat and show understanding. This study shows users trust AI agents more when replies clearly reference what the user just said (“conversational contingency”).

Try this: have your agent echo the user’s main point (“Got it, so you’d like to cancel that order…”) before giving the solution (“Let me quickly check where your order is in the delivery process.”). The customer feels smarter and warmer.

🧐 OpenAI Adds Deep Research Models + Webhooks. From 27 June the API exposes two new “o3/o4-deep-research” models plus webhooks for long jobs, essentially an out-of-the-box research agent you can program.   

Great for building agents that fetch, analyse and cite sources without writing a scraper.

🤷‍♀️ What Else Happened In AI This Week?

  • OpenAI goes shopping again (and will expand it’s ChatGPT shopping experience).

    It snapped up the recommendation-engine team from Shopify-Backed AI Crossing Minds to beef up personalisation inside ChatGPT and future products.

  • ‘Stargate’ super-cluster gets even bigger.

    OpenAI and Oracle signed a deal for another 4.5 GW of U.S. data-centre power. Enough juice to keep the next wave of GPT models humming.

  • EU AI Act playbook slips to late 2025.

    Brussels says its promised “Code of Practice” won’t arrive until year-end. Yet the first compliance deadline (2 Aug 2025) still stands.

  • Important: If you use Anthropic’s free tool MCP Inspector, install the latest update (version 0.14.1) right away. An old version has a big security flaw that could let hackers take control of your computer.
