July 18-24, 2025: The No-Bullshit AI News You Need
BREAKING: GPT-5 Launch Date Revealed
TL;DR: GPT-5 is launching in early August 2025. Amazon bought a $50 AI wearable that listens to everything you say. Plus: Trump unveiled a new AI action plan. Google's IMO math breakthrough, and the week that shows AI is moving from your computer into your physical world.
🕵️ BREAKING: GPT-5 Launch Date Revealed
The Verge reports GPT-5 is launching in early August 2025 - just weeks away from now, with sources confirming OpenAI is in final preparations.
What we know:
Launch targeted for early August (not just "summer" anymore)
Will combine traditional GPT models with o3-style reasoning capabilities
Mini and nano versions will launch alongside the full model
Available through both ChatGPT and API from day one
Signs it’s really almost there:
Sam Altman praised the new model on Theo Von's podcast July 23rd
Security experts are already red-teaming the model
"gpt-5-reasoning-alpha-2025-07-13" spotted in testing code
OpenAI testers already using it in the wild
Why this matters: You won't need to choose between reasoning power and speed, or switch between different models for different tasks. GPT-5 handles everything - from simple questions to complex multi-step reasoning - in one system.
Action item: Think about use cases and workflows that this would significantly improve. For me: I immediately am thinking about Slack AI agents that I implement for clients. Usually they should both be able to answer complex knowledge-base questions, tool calls, but also be a quick help. This will significantly improve speed for the easy questions while keeping the reasoning for the more comlex situations.

🎧 Amazon Just Bought the "Everything Listener"
Amazon acquired Bee this week, a startup making a $50 AI wearable that listens to everything you say and creates daily summaries, to-do lists, and insights.

Creates daily digests and reminders from what it hears
Integrates with email, calendar, and contacts for deeper personalization
Only $50 device + $19/month subscription
Why this matters for you:
Voice AI is moving from homes to bodies
$50 price point makes it accessible vs. $500 competitors
Amazon has the ecosystem to make this actually useful
Early signal of where personal AI assistance is heading
The opportunity: Local businesses need voice AI strategy. Every restaurant, salon, and service business will want 24/7 voice support. Be the first to show them how.

🏗️ Stargate Project: $500B Dreams Meet Reality Checks
OpenAI and Oracle signed a massive 4.5GW data center deal this week - but leaked reports show the broader Stargate project is hitting major roadblocks.
The good news:
Oracle deal generates $30B annually
Equivalent of "two Hoover Dams" of computing power
Construction advancing in Abilene, Texas
The reality check:
SoftBank and OpenAI deadlocked over terms and sites
2025 plans scaled back to just one data center
Elon Musk claims SoftBank "doesn't have the money"
Why it matters: Even with unlimited funding, AI infrastructure is harder than expected. The winners will be those building practical solutions today, not waiting for perfect conditions.
